NEWSFLASH: Guard injured in Silverton cash heist gunfire
Multiple shots were fired at the truck, subsequently hitting one of the security guards.
Multiple shots were fired at a G4S truck during a cash-in-transit heist in Waltloo, Silverton on Wednesday, 2 May.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the truck was on its way to the depot around 19:00 when the onboard security guards, who initially suspected the noise was a backfiring car, realised they were taking gunfire.
The guards said the suspects forced them to stop and ordered them out of the truck.

“Then they were instructed to lie down on the ground as the robbers blew the back door open with explosives,” said Miller.
The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing in a Mercedes Benz and BMW X5.
Miller said the police were on the scene investigating.
Miller said the robbers had also fired at onlookers to prevent them from stopping at the scene.

He warned witnesses against posting any video footage they shot at the scene on social media as this could hamper the investigation.
He said such footage should instead be sent to the SAPS as it could help to bring the perpetrators to book.
One guard was hit in the in the leg during the shooting.
