A suspected house robber who was wounded in a shootout with Soshanguve police on Tuesday morning is in hospital under police guard.
The man was allegedly involved in a house robbery and rape in Tuinplaas, Limpopo.
He was shot and wounded during a shootout with police at Marikana in Soshanguve.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said the drama began when police were chasing three suspects along Soutpan road at M4 Marikana.
The men were driving a black Corsa bakkie, which was allegedly hijacked in Tuinplaas.
The men shot at the police, who returned fire.

One of the men aged 30 was shot twice, in the right lower body as well as the right upper body.
He was rushed to George Mukhari Academic Hospital for medical attention where he is under police guard, said Maluleka.
The other two accomplices, aged 21 and 32, surrendered to the police. They were not injured.
A 9mm pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered.
No police officers were injured in the incident.
The men were arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as charges of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.
The suspects will appear before the Soshanguve magistrate’s court soon.
