NEWSFLASH: Biko hospital barricaded by protesters

Traffic in Steve Biko Road was not affected by the protest.

Police are keeping a close eye on Steve Biko Academic Hospital after a protest broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

Disgruntled former hospital employees barricaded the main entrance of the hospital using burning tyres, according to police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.

“The crowd is dispersing at the moment and no injuries have been reported,” she said.

A case of malicious damage to property has been reported.

Selepe said police were at the scene to monitor the situation.
