UPDATE: Taxify driver’s murderers still on loose

The murderers of Siyabonga Ngcobo are yet to be arrested months after the Taxify driver was torched in the boot of his vehicle.
Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela confirmed the police were not having much luck finding the perpetrators.
“There have not been any breakthroughs. Information is being received and we are investigating,” Mavimbela said.
Gauteng MEC for community safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said in the aftermath of the murder the perpetrators would be brought to book “dead or alive”.
“These bastards have taken his life just like that.”
Her roads and transport counterpart Ismail Vadi condemned the “barbaric” nature of the killing.
“What kind of human being, or animal, does this? It is not human behaviour.”
Though no link was ever established between the murder and the ongoing taxi-hailing service-meter taxi industry violence, it was believed to be behind the brutal act.
Ngocobo died from smoke inhalation, according to his aunt, Nobuhle Mbonambi.
His charred remains were found in the boot of his burnt-out Chevrolet Aveo near the Unisa Sunnyside campus in March.
The 21-year-old was a final-year sports management student at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and had only joined the taxi-hailing service a week prior.
