Metro warns of job vacancy scam
The city only advertises vacant posts in newspapers and on their website.
The city of Tshwane has warned of a bogus job vacancy at the metro being circulated through a short messaging platform and other apps.
It is a scam, they cautioned.
“There is no such post,” said city spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
“We urge the public to ignore the message.”
He added that the city only advertises vacant posts in newspapers and the job forum page on their website at www.tshwane.gov.za.
The bogus vacancy is for a receptionist post at the municipality.
The circulated message reads as follows:
INVITATION TO AN INTERVIEW
Dear applicant, we would like to invite you to an interview.
Position: RECEPTIONIST
Venue: CITY OF TSHWANE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY
Date:18/05/2018
TIME:10:30
NB: Please contact your HR co-ordinator MR MOSHWANE at XXX-XXX-XXXX to confirm your bookings today not later than today.

“The city is appalled at scammers who want to con people who are desperate for jobs,” he said.
He warned those responsible that they will be arrested, charged and prosecuted.
The city urged the public to contact the metro police at 082-891-8625 if they come across such bogus job adverts.
“We urge the public to be always vigilant of fraudulent activities and not to pay anyone for a job application.”
