UPDATE: SOUNDCLIP: Centurion thieves caught by east security
“The suspects were cornered within minutes of the break-in.”
Two men were caught by members of a private security company in the east of Pretoria after they allegedly broke into a car at a petrol station in Lyttelton, Centurion on Thursday evening.
A resident saw the suspects fleeing the garage in a car, according to police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller.
The witness took a photo of the suspects’ vehicle, which he shared on a WhatsApp crime prevention group.
“The suspects were cornered within minutes of the break-in,” said Miller.
Miller said Hi-Risk Security called in for the police’s assistance, but managed to apprehend the men while police were still on the way.
The men were found in possession of suspected stolen property as well as a laptop which was allegedly stolen from the car at the petrol station.
Car break-in implements were also found in their possession.
The men will be charged for possession of stolen goods and theft out of a motor vehicle.
Miller said Lyttelton police would like to thank the community and security companies for their assistance.
