NEWSFLASH: Man’s body found in car trunk

The car was found abandoned with the engine still running.

The body of a 53-year-old man was discovered in the trunk of an abandoned car in Sefako Makgatho Drive in Pretoria on Sunday morning.

The drama started when passers-by investigated an older model Volkswagen Jetta, which was seemingly involved in an accident.

The bystanders found no-one inside the car, even though the engine was still idling.

They then switched off the engine and contacted the police.

It was when the metro police came to investigate that the body of the man was discovered in the boot.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk told Rekord that it appears to have been murder, but said police are “following up on all possible leads”.

“The family had been contacted to identify the body,” he said.
