North dice game murder case postponed

The alleged Hammanskraal dice-killer has been remanded in custody following a postponement of his case.
Solomon Kubayi (28) alleged shot dead Thabiso Samuel Mabasa during a dice gambling game at a tavern in Mmotla village.
Kubayi was remanded in custody on Monday after appearing in the Moretele magistrate’s court in Hammanskraal.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the accused, who had been on the run since last Saturday, was traced and arrested in Mmakaunyane village on Friday.
“He fled the scene with four cellphones and a small amount of money.
“Police launched a manhunt and found the suspect hiding at a girlfriend’s place,” said Moremi adding that the postponement was necessitated by the suspect claim in court that he threw the firearm into a dam.
“The police are still trying to find the alleged murder weapon.
“It is alleged Kubayi entered the tavern and pointed the firearm at people playing dice and demanded their money and cellphones. He then allegedly shot Mabasa in the upper body. He died instantly.
“The deceased was identified by his family.”

It was unclear when Kubayi would next appear in court but it was expected he would make his bail application then.
