Attacks on Wierda Road in Centurion
“They dragged her into the bushes and took her belongings.”
An overgrown empty field along Wierda Road in Centurion remains a cause of concern for local residents – despite recent efforts to have it cleaned up.
In the most recent incident, a resident told Rekord that her domestic worker had been robbed and assaulted by thugs hiding in the bushes on Tuesday morning.
It is reportedly the third time that the domestic worker had been robbed at the field.
“On a previous occasion it was four guys and with the latest incident, they were three,” the resident said.
“They dragged her into the bushes and took her belongings.”
In March, Rekord also reported on an attack on Philip Boardman (68), an avid runner, who was jogging along Wierda Road.
Boardman’s attacker forced him to the ground and tried to pull him behind some bushes.
Fortunately, a car drove by and the two women inside saw what was happening and honked, scaring the thug away and likely saving Boardman’s life.
Ironically Boardman, a local businessman, had spent more than R200 000 of his own money to build a running trail in the area, which kicks off at Wierda Road where the attack took place.
The trail turns right into Voortrekker Road on the R55, right on Alaric Road and continues onto Campbell Road until it connects with Wierda Road again.
Wierdabrug police had not responded to queries by the time of going to press.
