UPDATE: Hawks says latest CIT robbery handiwork of crime syndicate
VIDEO: A guard was shot while the robbers were running for their getaway cars.
The Hawks are investigating the cash-in-transit heist at the Celtis Spar in Seedcracker Street in Heuweloord, Centurion on Monday morning.
Police suspect this latest robbery to be the handiwork of the same crime syndicates which have been behind the recent spate of cash-in-transit heists in Tshwane, according to Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.
Mulamu said a guard was shot and wounded during this latest incident.
“The cash-in-transit vehicle arrived at the store to collect money,” she said.
“On his way out of the store, the guard was confronted by armed men.”
Mulamu said the robbers took the security’s official firearm before they took the money from him.
“There were two getaway vehicles. While the suspects were running to their getaway vehicles, they fired at the security officer.”
Mulamu said luckily no-one was killed during the robbery.
