North man in court for allegedly stabbing girlfriend to death

“If a relationship is not working out bathong (people), let’s call it quits and move right along.”

A Mabopane man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death has appeared in court on murder charges.

The incident happened last Friday at the accused’s family home.

Jim Phago (33) is accused of the murder of his Mabopane girlfriend, Mosidi Kopanye (33). It is alleged that he dumped her body near the Wallmansthal military base.

She was a clerk at the Temba magistrate’s court in Hammanskraal.

Kopanye’s body was found with an open wound to the upper body, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Margaret Molane.

Phago made a brief appearance in the Pretoria North magistrate’s court on Monday and the case was postponed to Friday, 1 June for his bail application.

Before her death, Kopanye posted the following on Facebook: “If a relationship is not working out bathong (people), let’s call it quits and move right along.”

Several users, who appeared to have known her personally, reacted with rage at the ongoing scourge of femicide, where women are killed by their partners.
