North man caught with unlicensed rifle
He also had two magazines, unlicensed ammunition and a balaclava with gloves in his possession.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly being in the possession of an unlicensed rifle in Soshanguve.
Police spokesperson Constable Zanele Mtsweni said the arrest came after a joint operation between the police, Tshwane metro police and the Gauteng traffic department.
“The suspect was apprehended following a tip-off from the community. He was found at his home in Block F in possession of an unlicensed R5 rifle with the serial number scratched off,” she said.
“He also had two magazines, 22 unlicensed ammunition and a balaclava with gloves in his possession.”
Mtsweni said stop and search operations were conducted around problematic areas in Soshanguve in order to reduce armed robberies car hijackings and ATM robberies.
“Six other suspects were arrested for being illegal immigrants, one for driving a motor vehicle without a licence and the negligent handling of a firearm.
