Atteridgeville streets safe again after taxi violence

The police said the feuding had made an agreement to cease hostilities.

The Atteridgeville taxi violence that left commuters stranded last week has come to an end, local police said on Monday.

Last week Tuesday members of a local taxi association blockaded roads with tyres and exchanged gunfire during a dispute resulting in the arrest of seven.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said taxi association members were fighting among themselves.

According to residents, members of the local association chased a group of taxi drivers, believed to be from KwaZulu-Natal, from the Phomolong taxi rank.
