A dog has survived what would have been a fatal accident north of Pretoria had it not been for the response of the local community.
Wollies Animal Project owner Cilla Trexler said the animal was picked up by motorists and brought to the shelter after it was run over by a car in Amandasig last week.
“The female boxer was badly hurt and covered in blood,” said Trexler.

“The car had hit her so hard one of her eyes came out.”
A local veterinarian operated on the dog to save its life.
“She, unfortunately, lost her eye, but is recovering well.”
Trexler said the owners of the dog could not be found.
“It was suspected it got out of a yard – but after a long search for the owners and advertising on social media, the owner could not be found.”
Trexler said the dog would be put up for adoption soon.

“We need financial assistance to pay the vet’s bill.”
