NEWSFLASH: Groenkloof ‘cable thief’ nabbed
The man was found in possession of various tools used by cable thieves.
An alleged cable thief was stopped dead in his tracks in Groenkloof on Wednesday.
Following numerous reports of power outages, a Hi-Risk security officer dispatched to the area to investigate, arrested the 34-year-old suspected thief around 01:00.
According to the security firm, the man was spotted tampering with a solar panel in Florence Ribeiro Road.
The suspect was arrested and various tools used by cable thieves were found in his possession then handed over to the Sunnyside SAPS.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said the suspect would appear in the Hatfield community court on charges of attempted theft soon.
Weilbach said police were investigating to see if the man could be linked to other cable theft cases in the area.
