Notorious house robbers caught in North

The trio was involved in a house robbery in the North West where they assaulted the home owner.

Three house robbers were caught during an intelligence crime driven-operation near Hammanskraal on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said the trio appeared before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

“They gained entrance into a house in Hebron, North West, on Monday and held a 29-year-old at gunpoint. He was tied up and assaulted,” she said.

“The house ransacked and an amplifier, two plasma screens, clothes, a laptop, personal documents and two cellphones taken.”

The robbers fled in the victim’s BMW.

Myburgh said the three were stopped in an operation in New Eersterust.

“During the search, some of the stolen properties, a plasma remote control and stolen BMW’s keys, were found.”

Myburgh said further investigation led the police to a house in Mlhaumbe Section, Winterveldt, where more stolen properties were seized.

The stolen BMW was recovered at Jubilee Mall in Temba, she added.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that one of the suspects is linked to a car-hijacking case reported in Loate earlier this year.”
