A regular police patrol ended in a dramatic car chase during which a reportedly stolen vehicle smashed into another car in Chantelle, north of Pretoria, on Sunday.
“Police were patrolling the area when they spotted a maroon VW Touareg which was reported stolen in Kempton Park,” police spokesperson Constable Matsobane Mabusela said.
The chase ended with the driver of the Touareg crashing into another vehicle at the corner of First Avenue and Boshoff Street.

“One of the three occupants of the stolen car was injured,” Mabusela added.
He was said to have been taken to the Doctor George Mukhari hospital, in Ga-Rankuwa, for medical attention.
Mabusela said the driver was arrested, while a third occupant managed to escape.
“The driver was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.”
Mabusela dismissed social media claims that one of the alleged hijackers was shot by officers in a police helicopter.
“I do not have that on the record,” he said.

CDPF Akasia SAPS forum chairperson Tienie Vorster was, however, adamant that “the chopper shot down at the car”.
Vorster said the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision escaped without injury, but were “traumatised”.
“We managed to bring people who would give them some sort of counselling to the scene,” he said.
