UPDATE: Laudium man under police guard for setting girlfriend alight

It is believed that the couple had a fight earlier on.

The Laudium man accused of murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend by setting her alight is still in hospital under police guard.

The couple reportedly had an argument in their Itereleng informal settlement, Laudium, home on 3 June, after which the 31-year-old allegedly set the woman alight.

The man was arrested the following day.

“The suspect is still in hospital after he suffered burn wounds (while setting his girlfriend alight),” said Laudium police spokesperson Constable Simon Chokoe.

“He will be behind bars as soon as he’s discharged.”

Chokoe said the investigation was ongoing.
