UPDATE: Calm returns to Eersterust after violent protests
VIDEO: It was confirmed on Monday that everything in the area was back to business by Sunday.
Eersterust was calm on Monday, following violent protests in the area over service delivery last week.
Community policing forum chairperson Henry Godfrey confirmed on Monday that everything in the area was back to normal by Sunday.
The area experienced violent protests last week in which several residents were injured during clashes with police.
The protest broke out last Wednesday when angry residents took to the streets around 05:00 blocking exits and burning tyres.
At least 16 people were arrested on Thursday evening after protesters stormed the Eersterust police station.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said several items were stolen during the attack.
