VIDEO: Limited activities at Jean Avenue sinkhole in Centurion

“I don’t think this intersection will be open in 5 weeks’ time.”

Despite agreeing to, the Tshwane metro is yet to provide feedback on the progress of the Jean Avenue and Gerhard Street sinkhole repairs to local businesses.

Recently businesses filed a class action suit to force the Tshwane metro to keep them in the loop on a monthly basis.

On Friday morning, Philip Lourens, owner of the Zenex garage said activity seemed to be limited at the construction site.

Lourens said there had been very little activity since Thursday.

“The 15th of each month, the metro is to submit a monthly report. We haven’t received it yet.”

The metro said in a statement earlier this year the repairs would be completed by 20 July.

“I don’t think this intersection will be open in 5 weeks’ time,” said Lourens.

Mayoral spokesperson Sam Mgobozi said in January the metro had reached a settlement with business to provide monthly progress reports to the Registrar of the Court and applicant, “and that the anticipated time of completion, barring any outside influences, would be six months”.

Rekord sent an enquiry to the metro and mayor’s office in May and recently, but no response has yet been received.
