North dad in court for ‘raping’ own daughter
The accused allegedly visited his daughter at school and lured her to a shopping mall where he said he was going to buy her clothes.
The sentencing of a 45-year-old father who allegedly raped his own daughter has been postponed to next month.
The girl was 14 years old in 2013 when she was allegedly abused.
The accused, who may not be named to protect the girl, appeared in the Moretele magistrate’s court on Tuesday. However, the matter was postponed to July 17.
The defence counsel for the “rapist dad” asked for a postponement, requesting a medical report to be made available before judgment was passed.
“The accused’s bail application was denied on May, 11 2013, a day after his arrest and he had since been behind bars.
“He will remain in custody until his next appearance on July 17,” said police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi.
The accused allegedly visited his daughter at her school in Hammanskraal and lured her to a shopping mall where he said he was going to buy her clothes.
Instead of taking her to the mall, he took her to a different location where the alleged rape took place.
After the assault, he took her back home, according to police.
“It is alleged that the accused is separated from the girl’s mother and was not allowed to visit her at school,” said Moremi.
After the girl told her mother what her father allegedly did, the matter was reported to the police.
“The accused is a well-known businessman in the community,” Moremi said.
On July 17, it is expected that the state would finalise its case with the testimony of a doctor on the medical report of the victim.
