Pakistani nabbed for robbery in Hercules
They locked the business owner in the backroom then the Pakistani pretended to be the shop assistant.
A 28-year-old Pakistani was arrested for allegedly robbing a supermarket in Hercules on Wednesday.
“Two suspects entered the shop leaving a third in the car. One robber pretended to buy biscuits and a Powerade drink and while the owner was preparing change, the other suspect unleashed a firearm and pointed at the owner, ” said Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.
“The robber forced the victim into the back room wherein he tied him with an electric cord.”
Msimango said the Pakistani then pretended to be the shop assistant when a customer came in to buy cigarettes.
“He took the money but wouldn’t give change. As the customer and the Pakistani screamed at each other, the shop owner also screamed for help.”
The other robber panicked and made his escape driving off leaving the Pakistani behind. Locals arrested the Pakistani then handed him over to the police.
Msimango said the Pakistani was expected in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on a charge of business robbery.
His two accomplices were still at large but the investigation continues.
