North councillor donates blankets to senior citizens
Councillor Enos Chiloane of ward 90 donated more than 400 blankets to the senior citizens of Soshanguve.
Hundreds of pensioners were overjoyed on Saturday when they each received a blanket from their local ward councillor in Soshanguve.
ANC ward councillor Enos Chiloane donated more than 400 blankets to the senior citizens on Youth Day.
“Giving these gifts to you is one way of saying thanks for the support and love I have received ever since I was voted ward councillor,” said Chiloane.
There was a long round of applause, song and dance when the councillor announced that aged, child-headed houses and disabled people would be first in line to receive the blankets.
“We took a conscious decision as municipal leaders that we are going to change the lives of our people for the better. One way of doing that is the provision of houses, with more emphasis on the aged, child-headed houses and disabled people. We want to make sure that our aged have roofs over their heads so that when they depart this world they will leave a lasting legacy to their children and grandchildren. We have already started with that programme and we will continue to do so for as long as we are in office.”
Hundreds of community members came out to support the councillor for his efforts.

The day was celebrated with music and dance by local groups such as Basadi ba Ward 90, Black Pool Dance Club, and many others.
“The event was in honour of the youth of June 1976 for their contribution in the struggle against apartheid. They played a big role to liberate us from the apartheid regime. We would like to thank Valumax Developers for helping us in this programme to make sure that 400 blankets are donated to these youth of ’76 most of them are now pensioners,” said Chiloane.
“That is why approached Ferdinand Kerkhoff the director of Valumax Property to invest in our poverty alleviation programme.
“Since 2013 in June I had to raise funds or dig deep into my own pockets to give pensioners blankets, food parcels, and school kids uniform,” said Chiloane.
“It is important to take care of each other as humans.”
After the pensioners received the blankets, everyone was served lunch.
Local leader ANC youth league leader David Thathane said it was through the efforts of the class of ’76 that freedom was achieved in this country.
“With the help of 1976 students we achieved our freedom now we are facing a new struggle of winning our battle against poverty, that is why we have declared war on poverty.”
