Cable thieves arrested in Erasmia
The arrest was made in a known copper-related crime hotspot between Erasmia and the Mooiplaas informal settlement.
Four cable thieves have been arrested in Erasmia.
A local security company patrolling the area had spotted six suspects burning cable in the cable-theft hotspot between Erasmia and the Mooiplaas informal settlement on Monday around 04:45.
The guards called for backup.
Four thieves were arrested while two escaped.
The guards recovered cable with an estimated value of over R5 800, which was, together with the suspects and their silver Ford Ranger, handed over to the Erasmia police.

Local councillor Kingsley Wakelin said that some areas in Hueweloord had been without power for up to 35 hours due to cable theft.
He said another cable theft incident had occurred on Sunday evening.
“These are being repaired completed and most areas had their power restored yesterday morning,” said Wakelin.
He said cable theft continued to be a problem in the area as well as the metro in general, leading to power outages and inconvenience for residents.
