Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting in the east of Pretoria that left a man dead and his wife seriously injured.
A 55-year-old man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself on Wednesday morning in Leeuwenhof Estate, Hazeldean.
“Police were called to the scene by the security guards and upon arrival found the couple in their bedroom with bullet wounds in their upper bodies,” said police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe.

Mbewe said the man and his wife (39) were rushed to hospital together, but the husband was declared dead on arrival.
“It is reported that the couple’s elder son who is 14-years-old, heard gunshots fired from their parents’ bedroom and alerted the security guards.
“Police have opened an attempted murder and inquest docket.”

Netcare 911 spokesperson Tebogo Magoro said the wife had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had already succumbed to the fatal gunshot to his head and unfortunately nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead by Netcare 911,” he said.
