Mobile clinic tests for HIV – in 10 minutes
High-tech clinic will be visiting various areas around Gauteng as part of a pilot project.
A new mobile HIV/Aids testing and treatment clinic will visit various areas of Gauteng as a pilot project.
The clinic boasts high-end technology that can determine a person’s HIV status in under 10 minutes, and notify them of the results via SMS.
It was launched at the Menlyn Maine Capital Hotel on Thursday, 12 July.
The clinic is owned by Shout-It-Now, an NGO that provides mobile community-based HIV testing services.
The organisation has performed over 1,1 million HIV tests in four provinces to date, including more than 800 000 in Gauteng.
The clinic will mostly be visiting residential areas that are underserved by public health clinics.

The test-and-treat service is designed to see up to 250 people per day.
The testing van features seven touchscreen kiosks with the latest audio-visual interface. It needs only three healthcare advisers to perform all functions, including the physical tests.
They also feature three languages, namely Zulu, English and Sepedi. The biometric equipment ensures accurate and efficient identification and tracking of clients.
Those who test positive on their initial HIV test can then proceed to the ART van where a qualified doctor or nurse provides confirmatory testing.
They will also assess whether the person is eligible for immediate antiretroviral treatment and, if so, issue a one-month supply of ARVs.
