SCHOOL: Southdowns College’s Interdisciplinary Arts Week

The week ended with a 1980s themed civvies day in celebration the upcoming musical Footloose.

Southdowns College recently hosted its annual SCAMdalous week.

The three-night event included a first Southdowns College High School Talent Show.

The interdisciplinary arts event was onceptualised by the school’s Cultural Committee six years ago to showcase the musical, artistic and dramatic talents of the school community.

Over the years, the event has been expanded to feature various other cultural events.

The talent show, hosted on the first night, afforded learners who never get an opportunity, a platform to shine on the stage.

The competition was well-attended and judged by former learners.

The annual Southdowns College Art Exhibition, on the second evening, featured performances by various Drama and Music learners.

On the third night matrics hosted SAMphony, the 9th annual matric music pupils’ final performance.

“It was so nice to see past matric music pupils support the show and the wonderful evening was enjoyed by all,” says, Creative Arts Director, Sheldon Rocha Leal.

The week ended with a 1980s themed civvies day in celebration the upcoming musical Footloose, on next term.

“Well done to all the learners who participated and those who supported as well. It was an amazing week at Southdowns College, as each learner did us proud,” he adds.
