A 34-year-old man was injured when his car was stoned in Garsfontein in the early hours of of Monday morning.
Rudolf Delport said he was driving to work around 04:50 when he noticed a bakkie at the traffic lights on the intersection of Atterbury and January Masilela roads.
He said as he approached the intersection the traffic light was red so he decided to slow down to avoid coming to a complete stop.

“I saw a man running towards the bakkie with his hand behind his back. He stopped and looked through the bakkie’s window.”
“I thought he was going to smash the window. By this time the light [had] turned green and the man looked at my car and started running towards it.”
Delport said he accelerated to get away as the man threw a stone through his car window.
The rock struck him on the chin.

“I continued driving to work, but I realised I needed to get some stitches and a friend took me to the emergency room at the Wilgers hospital,” he said.
He said he suspected that he was targeted for a smash and grab and wanted to warn people to be cautious in the area.
“I got 6 stitches,” said.
He said the ongoing road constructions in the area combined with the street lights that were not working made such incidents regular occurrences.

“My car is tinted with smash and grab protector because I travel to work that time of the morning.”
“I think without it my injuries would have been a lot worse.”
Garsfontein police confirmed that a case of malicious damage to property was being investigated.
