Moot home being rebuilt after fire

Construction will take about three more weeks to be completed.

After having to wait for months, a family of the Moot is finally able to rebuild their home after it burned down earlier this year.

The Capital Park family said they were excited and thrilled to be able to live in their new, but yet old home again.

Mother of the house, Elizabeth Kgosimang said reconstruction for their new home began about three weeks ago.

She said construction would take about three more weeks to complete.

“We cannot wait to be able to live as a normal family again,” she said.

“It has been a difficult road, but thanks to the support of residents we pulled through.”

She said except for the first donation of R16 000 they received from the community in May, the family had raised all funds needed for the reconstruction.

“We are very thankful towards the community who have supported us since our house burned to the ground,” Elizabeth said.

When Rekord visited the family on Monday, construction workers were hard at work with reconstruction.

“We are just waiting for an official from the Tshwane metro to approve the measurements of the roof before we can start with that part of the house,” Elizabeth said.

“When looking back at what happened, we do not look at the fact that we lost everything we had, but we rather look at a new beginning that we can start.”

Rekord previously reported that the fire was caused by a gas explosion at the house in Van Heerden Street, next to mayor Solly Msimanga’s house.

Following the fire, community members jumped in to help the family with donations.

The mother and father of the house escaped unharmed from the fire.

Their two children were not at home at the time.
