The Villieria police have called for the assistance of residents to fight the theft of gate motors in the area.
Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said this type of theft was showing an increase.
People should mark their gate motors or write down the serial number in a bid to curtail this crime.
“This could help us pinpoint any suspect that is caught with gate motors under suspicious circumstances,” Brits said.

She said when reporting the theft of a gate motor, residents should provide the police with relevant details.
These included the date, time and place of the crime, the type of fencing around the premises and how entry was gained into the yard.
Other information related to the number of dogs on premises, whether the gate motor was visible from the street and bolted to a device.
Brits said residents should also supply the police with video footage if there were any.
She said residents should also make sure that when installing a gate motor, that they should make sure it is a new one.
“If you suspect any foul play please report it to the investigating officer without confronting the person,” she said.
Kilnerpark Security spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi urged residents to report all gate motor thefts to the police.
“If it is reported to the police and the criminals are caught, it would be easier to get it back to the right owner,” she said.
