Mamelodi traditional leaders wish learners luck

“We have realised that if a learner does not have a full school uniform they get discouraged from going to school. The school uniforms will motivate them.”

Mamelodi traditional leaders visited a local pre-vocational school on Tuesday morning to wish learners luck in the final examination for 2018.

The aim of the visit was to encourage learners to study hard and as well as wishing them luck on their final exam.

Organiser for the congress for traditional leaders in South Africa Fanie Mbele said the chiefs explained to the learners about the role of the organisation in the community.

“We encouraged the learners to love their books and most importantly to respect their educators and not to fight with them,” said Mbele.

“They must take education very seriously and stay away from crime such as doing drugs and substance abuse.”

Mbele said the traditional leaders have started a new school programme called #back-to-school during which they will hand over school uniforms to disadvantaged learners at various Mamelodi schools. The programme will kick off next year.

“We have realised that if a learner does not have a full school uniform they get discouraged from going to school. The school uniforms will motivate them.”

Mamelodi East pre-vocational school is a special institution formerly known as Khuthalani primary school offering different skills and curricula like sewing, hairdressing, hospitality, motor mechanic and welding.

School principal Seemole Matlala said she was happy with the visit by the local chiefs from Mamelodi.

“The visit will encourage the learners to take their school work very seriously. The school deals with learners with special needs and mild intellectual disabilities.”

Matlala said the school was started in 2016 and there were plans to introduce IT skills courses next year.

Grade 8 learner Bongani Masilela said he was happy with the visit by the local chiefs and for teaching learners about their role in the community.

The learners entertained the chiefs with music and dancing.

Excited members of Contralesa together with the learners and teachers of Contralesa visited Mamelodi East Pre-vocational.
