New shoes for deserving north learners
"Some of them came to school barefoot. But now, because they have shoes, it will encourage them to come to school and enjoy life like other learners.”
Several disadvantaged learners from DA Mokoma Special School at Block C in Mabopane have all received brand-new shoes this week.
The donation was made possible by the New Seed Ministries church from Mabopane who donated shoes and socks to 21 learners.
“Most of the learners who benefited on the day are from disadvantaged backgrounds,” said school principal Luis Mokoene.
“Some are raised by single parents and some come from child-headed families.”
“I believe this is going to benefit the learners in a big way. Some of them came to school barefoot. But now, because they have shoes, it will encourage them to come to school and enjoy life like other learners,” said Mokoene.

Oupa Sehume, of New Seed Ministries in Mabopane, said he saw one of the learners wearing worn shoes and he decided to do something about it.
“I was touched by that leaner wearing worn out shoes in the freezing winter weather,” said Sehume.
“As a preacher I decided to do something by approaching the school, and they helped us in identifying more learners.
“They gave me the list of the kids who need help and as the New Seed Ministries we bought the shoes and socks for these kids. It is not for the first time we have helped this school. We have previously assisted them with the installation of the paving and fixing of broken windows,” said Sehume.

Mokoene said school was very thankful to the church for making such a generous donation to the learners.
“It really means a lot to the school and the learners,” he said.
He said the school management was happy to see the New Seed Ministries opening their hearts to help the learners.
“We really appreciate it and hope that they will continue doing this great work to others. I am also happy to see these kids receiving these gifts with smile, it means a lot to our school and to these learners who have received the donation,” said Mokoene.
