Tshwane metro police officers recovered stolen power cables of an unknown value in Sinoville, north of Pretoria, on Friday morning.
“Metro police members in Sinoville received a tip-off at around 07:00 on Friday about cable theft in progress at the intersection of R566 and R101 roads north of Pretoria, and they rushed to the scene,” spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said.
Although the officers were able to retrieve the stolen cables, the three culprits managed ran away.
“When the three suspects at the scene noticed the officers, they ran towards the river and disappeared into the nearby squatter camp,” he said.
Mahamba congratulated the officers for their speedy response and their successful work.
“The officers will continue searching for the suspects and the Tshwane metro police will continue to fight cable theft in Tshwane.
“Cable theft is a huge problem in the city and a major contributor to electricity outages in Tshwane,” said Mahamba, who encouraged community members to contact the nearest police station or the metro police on 012 358 7095/6 with information on cable theft.
