Santa was in town and visited the National Zoological Garden (NZG) on Wednesday, presenting early Christmas gifts to some of the animals.
The lucky animals included an octopus, penguins, Komodo dragons and lemurs, which all received edible holiday-themed treats.
Conservation manager at the NZG, Tracy Rehse said the gift-giving served as a form of enrichment activity for the animals.

“All our animals are special and deserve some nice treats,” she said.
The octopus was stimulated as he had to stretch his tentacles to reach his treats, while the lemurs had to scratch pine cones to get the peanut butter with which it was coated. The Komodo dragons had to unwrap their treats (rats) which was wrapped in a Christmas-themed wrapper.
While the penguins did not seem in the mood to play, they also enjoyed their treats nonetheless.
