Private security officials arrested three suspected cable thieves in Moreleta Park.
The arrest took place on Thursday during the early morning hours.
Officials had been responding to a panic activation at a nearby residential estate, said Bull Security spokesperson French Jooste.
The alert came through at around 03:00 on Thursday morning.
“Upon arrival, our reaction units were informed by estate security that three suspects were stealing power cables,” said Jooste.
The three were in the process of stealing the cables in an open field behind the estate.
Jooste said the cables were stolen on the Delmas Road side of the field.
“Our officers went to investigate, but were spotted by the men,” he said.
“Together with Tactical Edge Security, our team managed to arrest all three men with the stolen cables. We also managed to secure CCTV footage of the three in the act.”
The three suspects were handed over to the Garsfontein police.
Jooste said the arrest forms part of ongoing operations to combat crime in the area.
“We intend to continue with these proactive operations throughout the festive season.”
