Guards tied up in east mall armed robbery

The robbery happened around 05:00 in Elarduspark.

A number of security guards were held hostage when a shopping centre was robbed in the east of Pretoria at the weekend.

Bull Security spokesperson French Jooste said the robbery happened around 05:00 in Elarduspark.

“Five armed suspects entered the shopping centre in a white mini bus and took all the guards, tied them up and confiscated their hand cuffs and pepper-spray.”

Jooste said the five robbers then proceeded to a shop in the centre, where they broke the front door open and stole an undisclosed amount of items.

He said the criminals fled and the guards managed to press the panic button.

Jooste said the police were investigating.

The police could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
