‘Necklacing’ victim found in the north
When police arrived at the scene they found the body of the man with at least three tyres around him, still on fire.
Police have yet to identify the body of a middle-aged man who was killed in an apparent “necklacing” at New Eersterust, near Hammanskraal on Monday.
The man – who was burnt beyond recognition – was apparently placed inside rubber tyres and then set alight, according to police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi.
The man’s body was discovered on Monday morning around 09:30.

“A community member, who was busy at a farm, saw about six vehicles full of people around the bushes,” said Moremi.
“Later, he heard someone screaming for help and saw lots of smoke.”
The man then called other farm workers.
Together they went to check what was happening, which was when they found the victim.
When police arrived at the scene they found the body of the man with at least three tyres around him, still on fire.
“Rocks and sticks were also found at the crime scene.”
Moremi said a case of murder was opened.
“At this stage the suspects are unknown, but the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
“We urge anyone who is looking for a family member or with information about the suspects to come forward or call Temba police on 012-717-9000,” he said.
