The Moot community is in mourning after the death of a beloved veterinarian.
Dr Fred Malan of the Jakaranda Animal Hospital died after he was shot during an armed robbery on Thursday evening.
The robbery happened around 18:30 at the hospital in Frates Road.
Pretoria Moot CPF chairperson Elsabe van Staden said the Moot community was in mourning.
Van Staden, who was also a client of Malan, described him as a “dedicated and soft” person.

“He had an absolute passion for what he did,” she said.
“We are going to miss him dearly.”
Van Staden added that business robberies remained an issue in their precinct.
“I urge all business owners to become involved in the CPF’s business forum so that we can fight this crime together,” she said.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said a case of murder was opened and were being investigated by the police.

He said no arrests had been made yet.
The police previously said that three suspects, one female and two males, were involved in the robbery.
Malan was shot in his chest and later succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Van Staden said the robbers took some cellphones before fleeing the scene.
Messages of condolences streamed in on social media after the news of Malan’s death spread.

“Oh no! This is a huge loss to our society,” one Facebook user wrote.
“Our hearts are broken. Best vet ever. He was not just a vet, but also a friend,” another post read.
