A suspected vehicle thief was arrested by a private security company in Wingate Park this morning.
The man was arrested at around 05:30 after local security company Brinant Group was alerted to his presence in the area.
“One of our clients contacted us to report the suspicious activity,” said Brinant Group spokesperson Martin Barnard.
He said the client first reported that the suspicious individual was attempting to break into the neighbouring property.
“When our members arrived, they found the man in a Ford SUV and proceeded to question him,” said Barnard.
Upon further investigation, it appeared the man had attempted to break into a Toyota Hilux.
“Our members later learned that the vehicle he was in had also been reported stolen. He was also found to be in the possession of various vehicle theft tools.”
Barnard confirmed the suspect had been handed over to the Lyttelton police.
