Tshwane west police arrest 20, shut illegal drinking holes

Nine illegal taverns were also closed down.

Illegal taverns were closed and a number of arrests made during a Tshwane west police weekend operation.

Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the operations were targeted mainly at crime hotspots and was conducted under the command of Major-General Thomas Mthombeni.

“About 2 000 counterfeit CDs and DVDs were confiscated around Tshwane CBD. A second-hand dealer was fined R1 500 for non-compliance and nine illegal taverns were closed and liquor confiscated in and around Olievenhoutbosch area,” he said.

Msimango said 20 suspects were arrested for various crimes.

“Our operations are to ensure that business premises and properties are protected from criminals,” he said.

“More operations will continue and the Tshwane cluster police will continue to tackle crime to ensure that the communities are safe.”

Msimango pleaded with the community to always give information to their nearest police stations with regard to crime and suspicious criminal element.
