Police have urged Moot residents to come forward with information in connection with a well-known cold case.
This follows after a petition was started by a resident to appoint a new investigating officer to the Gert van Rooyen paedophile case.
Wonderboompoort police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane told Rekord on Tuesday that all cases were assigned to credible and competent investigators.

“Where there is a need to allocate more officers or gather a team of officials, the decision will be made by commanders under whom the case falls,” he said.
Zwane said at this stage there were no new leads in the case.
“However, we encourage residents to bring clues to the police so that they can be followed up,” he said.
He said all closed cases, no matter how old, can be reopened, provided there was new information or evidence that could help with the case.
The petition, which was launched on January 1, has gained more than 30 signatures since Rekord reported on the matter last week.
“The purpose of the petition is to request that a new investigating officer be appointed to investigate the case,” said Rina Moolman.
Her name is the pseudonym for a Moot resident who did want her real name to be known for privacy reasons.
The Van Rooyen case is probably one of South Africa’s most notorious unresolved cases in history involving child kidnapping and sex in which six young girls disappeared without a trace. Van Rooyen killed his alleged accomplice Joey Haarhoff and himself before it could be ascertained what happened to the girls.
