UPDATE: North ‘murder-friends’ case postponed again
"The prosecutor wanted to discuss the plea agreement with us before the next court appearance."
A plea agreement was to be discussed with the parents of murdered Richard Wood (26) before the two friends accused of his death would appear in court again.
On Thursday the two accused Christopher van der Westhuizen and Marchant Bredell, as well as family members of Wood waited at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court for proceedings to commence.

“I was really hoping that the whole matter would come to an end,” Wood’s mother Maryna said emotionally after the case was postponed again.
Last month the court allowed the case, ongoing for more than a year, to be postponed due to accused men’s decision to propose a plea agreement to the state prosecutor outside court.
“The prosecutor wants to discuss this plea agreement with us, before the next date at court would be determined,” said Maryna.

It was expected that the case will resume in March.
Wood died on 13 November 2017 after he was assaulted at a pub in Pretoria North.
Bredell and Van der Westhuizen (who was said to be Wood’s best friend) was arrested the following year and charged with murder.
Both were granted bail.
