A well-known private investigator from Pretoria will be investigating the murder of a beloved vet from the Moot, who was shot and killed in an armed robbery last month.
Dr Freddie Malan, owner of the Jakaranda Animal hospital, was shot dead at his practice in Frates Road on 31 January.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis said a family member of Malan’s had contacted him for help.
“This specific family member suspects foul play,” said Bolhuis.
Due to its sensitivity, Bolhuis could not provide more information about the investigation.
He added, however, that they had received a lot of leads and support from the community.
“We are currently following up on the leads that were provided,” he said.
Bolhuis confirmed the suspicion that Malan’s murder was not an ordinary robbery.
“The investigation is still in a very sensitive stage and we cannot risk speculation because it might be to the benefit of the suspects,” he said.
He added that his team was busy with a process of suspect elimination.
Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said no one had been arrested for the murder by Friday.
He said there were new leads that the police were following up on, but could not give any further details.
A case of murder and robbery is being investigated by the police.
