NEWSFLASH: Angry Atteridgeville protesters block roads, burn tyres
The residents were protesting about the high municipality rates in the township.
Main routes leading in and out of Atteridgeville were closed in the early hours of Monday after a violent protest broke out.
Disgruntled residents barricaded the main roads with burning tyres, causing traffic mayhem.
Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso said the residents were protesting about the high municipality rates in the township.
“We have managed to calm the situation down and cleared all the roads,” she said.
@mabena_bob I asked people at scene, the strike is about service delivery. Mainly people are complaining about high tariffs of water and electricity, people who stay in the hostels are not paying for services and theirs is never cut off, and how dirty Atteridgeville is.

Rikhotso said the community was expected to march to the municipal offices in Komane Street later on Monday.
“So far no injuries or arrests have been reported. “
