The case against a Valhalla primary school teacher accused of sexual and common assault has been postponed to 11 April.
He appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The 55-year-old teacher was released on R8 000 bail at his last appearance on 14 February 2019.
He is facing 24 charges of sexual assault with an alternative charge of crimen injuria.
He was arrested on 7 January after he handed himself over to police, days after he and his wife returned from a funeral in Nigeria.
The state requested the postponement to allow for further investigation into the case, including taking statements from the children at the school.
The accused’s legal representation again brought up the issue of an alleged bribe by the case’s investigating officer.
During the two-day-long hearing, the teacher’s defence previously claimed he had evidence investigating officer Captain Johannes Mkhondo had asked for a R10 000 bribe to make the case “disappear”.
The magistrate, however, said this was an external matter and would not affect the postponement of the case.
The teacher’s bail was extended and he was cautioned to be back in court in April.
