Tshwane metro urges RDP beneficiaries to collect title deeds

The City is currently sitting with over 9 000 uncollected title deeds.

The Tshwane metro has appealed to RDP housing beneficiaries to collect their title deeds from its regional offices.

The metro said in a statement this week that it was sitting with more than 9 000 uncollected title deeds.

“We urge the rightful beneficiaries to collect,” said Tshwane’s MMC for housing Mandla Nkomo.

“We have, in the past, explored several methods of communication such as letters, house-to-house visits, consumer education workshops, word-of-mouth and ward councillors’ mass meetings, to urge beneficiaries to collect their title deeds. However, not all of them came forward.”

He said the city has so far issued more than 9 800 title deeds since 2016.

“The DA-led coalition government in Tshwane has always maintained that home ownership should be realised and the dignity of our people be restored,” said Nkomo.

“Hence we’re making this fresh appeal to our residents to come and collect these documents which will give them security of tenure and confidence over their properties.”

Nkomo said he would be visiting regional offices to check progress on the collection of the title deeds as part of the mayor’s clarion call of accelerated service delivery.

Residents were urged to call or visit the housing offices below in their regions to check if their names were on the beneficiaries list.

“We want to emphasise that only a registered person/owner of a house or stand can collect a title deed. That registered person/owner must take their green bar-coded ID book or ID card along when visiting the housing office,” said Nkomo.
