A total of 95 people were arrested by the end of Gauteng law enforcement operations in the north of Pretoria on Thursday.
Gauteng premier David Makhura said some of the people arrested were wanted for crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, drug possession, house break-ins and possession of stolen vehicles.
“We want to make sure crime is really eliminated from our communities,” Makhura said.

Community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said the roadblock, which started at 02:00 along the R80 Mabopane Highway, was also aimed at apprehending illegal goods and immigrants.
“We arrested three illegal immigrants with the help of the home affairs department and one driver who failed to produce a driver’s licence.”
An “illegal” was also checked for his liability for forfeiture as his documents had to be tested for authentication by the SA Reserve Bank’s customs. An unroadworthy vehicle was seized.
Nappies worth R15 000 were also seized as they were not SA Bureau of Standards approved.
The stop-and-search roadblock formed part of the department’s “O kae molao” [where is the law] province-wide operations.
