Police held several crime held several roadblocks and crime awareness campaigns around Ga-Rankuwa last week.
The campaign was a joint effort of the Ga-Rankuwa SAPS, local CPF, Youth Desk and Victim Empowerment, according to Police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi.
“It was aimed at addressing violent crimes around the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s court and the Ga-Rankuwa shopping complex,” said Nkoadi.

The campaign distributed pamphlets and had police interacting with community members.
“About 2 000 pamphlets with information on anything from domestic violence, general crime, estate firearms and sexual offences were distributed,” he said.
Local ward Councillor Floyd Thema also took part in the initiative.
“The aim was to address crimes such as street robberies and traffic violations, and curb the transportation of contraband such as drugs and firearms through the area,” he said.
“The operation also aimed to create awareness of crimes against women and children, such as domestic violence and sexual offences.
The operation was executed under the command of the Tshwane North Cluster.
During the roadblock, about 300 vehicles – including taxis – were checked. Ninety-eight of them were searched as well.
Thirty-eight traffic fines were issued to a total value of R39 000.
“The officers had the opportunity to engage with the community, not only to educate them on issues regarding crimes against women, but also to keep them safe.”
