VIDEO: North police strapped in stolen belt accusation
A video of the police at the house has gone viral on social media.
The Gauteng police provincial commissioner has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations that officers were involved in theft during a raid on a house in Soshanguve.
Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela said he wanted answers after an alleged robbery by police in Soshanguve on Tuesday after a Soshanguve man accused police of stealing some items from his house.
A video of the police at the house has gone viral on social media.

Police said in a statement: “Preliminary reports indicate that on Tuesday afternoon, police were on an intelligence-driven operation in response to reports of possible stolen vehicles and unlicensed firearms at a certain residential premises in block PP, Soshanguve.”
In the video the man can be heard accusing the police of stealing his belts.
“Those belts cost around R8 500 and I don’t want to find them missing,” the man can be heard saying in the video.
He said if he had not been home during the police raid, he would have had a difficult time tracing his property.
Police confirmed a case of burglary at residential premises was opened at Rietgat police station.

“Management views these allegations in a very serious light in line with our zero-tolerance approach to corruption by our members.
“Therefore, it is important to allow both the criminal case and the internal investigation to run their course,” police said.
