Three months on, and there has still not been a breakthrough in the investigation into the murder case of a beloved veterinarian of the Moot, Dr Freddie Malan.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis who got on board with the case shortly after the murder, said no arrests had yet been made.
Malan, the owner of the Jakaranda animal hospital, was shot dead at his practice in Frates Road during an armed robbery on 31 January.
A case of murder and robbery was being investigated by the police.
Bolhuis also said activities of a “syndicate” of robbers have gone quiet following a failed robbery attempt on the West Rand late in February.
Bolhuis told Rekord this week that investigators were not aware of any robberies by this group during March.

“The last attempted robbery that we know of happened in February in Florida, West Rand,” he said.
They were working through the information they had on the case and were still busy with the investigation.
Rekord previously reported that authorities were worried about a spate of robberies in Tshwane and the broader Gauteng, reportedly involving the same three suspects using the same modus operandi.
In February, police also released an identikit of one of the suspects after face recognition was done by witnesses.
Bolhuis previously said he got on board with the investigation after a family member of Malan’s contacted him for help.
“This specific family member suspected foul play. Malan and his family have been clients of ours for years,” he previously said.
Bolhuis urged people not to resist or fight back when confronted in a robbery.
“Only do so if you have been properly trained to protect yourself and the people around you. Your life is more important than anything else,” he said.
Bolhuis said anyone was welcome to contact him or the police with more information.

Rekord previously reported that Malan’s death hit residents so hard they randomly started placing flowers in front of his practice the Friday after his death.
“It was completely spontaneous,” local CPF chairperson Elsabe van Staden previously said, adding that Malan’s death was a huge loss to the community.
Pretoria Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said last week that business robberies remained an issue in the area.
“I encourage all business owners to join the CPF’s business forum,” he said.
“Together we can fight this crime and prevent it from happening.”
Police could not give new information on the case at the time of print.
